Plains Pipeline Scoping Meeting and Rally on February 28

A rally against the Plains Pipeline project will happen at 5 p.m. before the official scoping meeting for the project which begins at 6 p.m., on Thursday, February 28, at the South County Regional Center, 800 W. Branch St in Arroyo Grande.

This is an opportunity for the public to provide input on what they think should be covered in the project's Environmental Impact Report. You can provide verbal and written comments at the meeting or mail them to County officials (see links below).

Topics include:

  • Keeping fossil fuels in the ground (this pipeline would serve three shutdown oil platforms off Gaviota) and prevent the GHG's associated with and a consequence of this project. If the pipeline is built it will result in millions more metric tons of GHG emissions in the production, transportation, and consumption of this dirty crude oil which should left in the ground.
  • Seismic threats to pipeline which could cause leaks.
  • Explore possible repurposing of offshore platforms for wind power.
