Today our National Surfrider Foundation celebrates 39 years!
That’s right: Surfrider was started in Malibu, Calif., in 1984, by a group of surfers concerned about the health and environmental risks of water pollution and escalating coastal development at their favorite surf spot.
The Surfrider Foundation has since grown into a national organization for beach lovers of all types, with nearly 200 chapters and student clubs, more than 1 million supporters and 100 active campaigns around the country.
Here closer to home, Surfrider has had a major impact on the coastal waters you love, with a number of victories that have helped keep our Central Coast waters clean.
While there’s still much more work to be done, here’s a look back at some of our wins in San Luis Obispo County.
