Get your hands dirty and help protect the ocean! Learn how to create an Ocean Friendly Garden in our Hands-On Workshop (HOW) in Oceano on Sunday, December 2nd, from 10 am to 1 pm. The HOW will teach you about:
- Site evaluation
- Designing a garden for rainwater capture
- Turf removal
- Sheet mulching and soil remediation
A future HOW in early 2019 will cover:
- Planting native, climate-appropriate gardens which will provide habitat for birds, insect, and pollinators
In addition to professional instruction, all attendees receive a copy of the Ocean Friendly Gardens Guide and lunch. Registration is required and space is limited, so register here today!
Surfrider initiated the Ocean Friendly Gardens program to help members and the general public take steps at home to prevent pollution from reaching the ocean and to restore urban watersheds. Water leaving residential and other developed sites can carry away and pick up pollutants on its journey to creeks, lagoons, and the sea. This urban runoff has become the #1 source of ocean pollution. Nationally, the Ocean Friendly Gardens program has prevented over 13 million gallons of polluted runoff from reaching our waterways and oceans.
