We’ve changed up the Ken Harmount Paddle for Clean Water, now going on its 24th year! Our start and finish for the long course will be on the west side of Avila Pier (no longer starting from Dog Beach and ending at Pismo Beach). The turn-around will be at Bird Rock (off Shell Beach). This change will make the event more user-friendly, both logistically and since paddlers will not have to deal with the bigger waves at Pismo. And we've added a short course, paddling around Avila Pier.
When: Saturday, October 13
Long course, 5-6 miles around Bird Rock: 8:30 a.m. (registration starts at 7 am)
Short course, around Avila Pier: 11 a.m. (registration starts at 10 am)

Ken Harmount was a Morro Bay lifeguard until a snowboarding accident changed his life. His friends got together, paddled from Pier to Pier and raised money to help Ken pay for his hospital bills. Ken donated the money to help start the San Luis Bay chapter (now San Luis Obispo Chapter) of the Surfrider Foundation. We’re proud to say that Ken Harmount is assisting with the art on this event.
